I accidentaly made this as I was trying to come up with a chord progression for this other song I was working on! It was one of those situations where you are browsing around and you find something cool, (at least it seems like it to me, you be the judge, (and let me know, (because its always hard for the maker to know if what he made is good.) -thanks.)) So yeah, I was kinda stuck because the song sounded like something Monks in a Monastery would bump so it was kinda wack, but it sounded very nice with 6 layerd pianos (including a dream piano and burning piano.) As I was trying to find a sound for just one of the chord parts — which sounded too pretty and gay on a piano, I ran the midi notes through FM8 by Native Instruments and I was cyclying through presets and it was ok… but then on of the presets already had some effects on it and the sound you hear in this song is pretty close to what it was. I just changed the eq. When I first played it, it seemed hella “ill” to me so I played it for a sec, gave it a chance. I thought it was pretty cool the way the chords I had made for this other song, transformed in to this simpler but still delicious and aggressive melody.
I just decided to throw away the rest of what I was working on (well just saved it for some other time) because what I had, and the new sound, didnt go together at all. The new sound had distortion and the old one was too clean and heavenly. Plus the notes didnt fit. So I just scraped the other components and just made this simple Urban Pop song I guess with a strong Dance music feeling. I threw a few sounds on there extra but I didnt feel like fleshing it out too much because I wasnt sure if it was worth the time.
I mean, is it catchy? Or does it just sound cheap? Let me know?
I also tried some quick vocals on it for a second (rap) and it sounded really smooth. Not too dancy, not to boring. Without vocals it kinda sounds too technoy but its definately freestyleable over.
After that I just spend some time to try to get the claps perfect. I used Battery 3 to try to find different sounds to layer and messed with the eq.
I decided to follow the original song closely, because it is just easier that way. I should probably make the kicks more prominent, and add some more interesting drum patterns with open hi-hat, but seeing as how it is already two days late I’ll take it for what it is. I’ll probably use the acapella for a mashup if I get around to it. Enjoy!
I have been pretty busy lateley and so all my hellagems posts have been rushed. Hopefully I will get some more free time soon to really bizuckle down on a track and feel happy with it. Anyway, I used some of my standby vsts for this. Hope you enjoy.
When you go to Omaha, NE to meet a bunch of people you’ve only know through the Internet, things are bound to go south quickly, at least if pitchers of Busch Light are involved.
Last Friday, we all went bar hopping in Bellevue, where the dive bars are just that, and ironic hipsters with PBR tall-boys are nowhere to be seen. You either get lit or you get shipped. I opted for the former.
I wanted to do something nasty and dirty, so here is my stumbling attempt towards that. Just imagine I’m still hopped up on wheat beer watching the landscape spin as you listen to the incorrigible mix, which seems impenetrable to me, but I’m going to have to let it go for now. There’s even a bitcrusher running through a send/return channel on my voice (once again improvising, only with slight hesitance due to my roommate being in the next room as I screech it). Yup, it’s that kind of song.
This one’s for all those guys I met in Omaha who aren’t insufferable hipsters, especially Keith, who will soon depart to China for the Peace Corps. Do they get crunk in China?
if you consider the fact that the whole thing was made on my new iPhone 3G Speed 32 GB in White, it makes you think about what the future holds. Soon all devices will just be portals into the big cloud. Phone and TV will all come from the internet and all items and things will have web access and communication. Everything will just be a screen portal to the central machine. And no I didnt just watch the Matrix.
I was having trouble thinking of something to do. My other music projects were coming along slowly. I felt like playing guitar, so I decided it would be a good challenge to make something using only guitar and effects. I use a bunch of different delays. The ocean sound is a grain delay and I just rubbed the muted strings. The pops are plucking a muted string fairly hard. I time warped some stuff in weird ways, and reversed a solo that I played.
It ends abruptly because I didn’t feel like thinking of an ending, and I felt that posting the whole 4:00 was a little too much for this kind of thing. It was a fun experiment. I think I will challenge myself to little games like this more often.
Here is a track that erf and I did a week ago. This a little idea I had. We used fake midi drums, fake flute , fake horn, and Rob’s doing some backwords singing.
It sounds strange but I really do sometimes feel unnerved by dinosaur pictures. As if I really were a bit too close. Here is an example to get in the mood
I found this awesome vsti Chip 32 and decided to try it out. I made this track using Chip 32, Toad, and Peach. I am not happy with it in its current state, I probably will change some things about this song in the future.
