I have been pretty busy lateley and so all my hellagems posts have been rushed. Hopefully I will get some more free time soon to really bizuckle down on a track and feel happy with it. Anyway, I used some of my standby vsts for this. Hope you enjoy.

I found this awesome vsti Chip 32 and decided to try it out. I made this track using Chip 32, Toad, and Peach. I am not happy with it in its current state, I probably will change some things about this song in the future.

I used several vst instruments for this and no recorded instruments. This song feels too short to me and if I had time I would have probably added more parts. I think this will be a project I will return to many times in the future.

For this song I busted out my old groove box, and after playing with it for a while I was able to get some really cool sounds out of it. The drums are the only digital instrument in the song, everything else is either the groove box or the micro korg + some effects. For many parts of this song I chopped up the tracks by hand. For the crazy synth part I used a combination of chopping and the glitch plug in. I also doubled the track and used different settings for the glitch on each track to give it a wierd glitching in and out effect.

This is a song that I haven’t finished yet. Right now it is a bit repetative to me, when I started this my goal was to make a song with several different unique and interesting parts. Right now it has a few different sections but it mainly repeats 1 theme. I’m not quite sure about the instrumentation, I might change some of the sounds in a later version. I ran into the obstacle erf described in his last post: I found myself constantly tweaking minor details before the song was even finished. I have learned to compose an entire song and then worry about instrumentation and variation. Let me know if you have any ideas to make this better.

I wanted to make the most 8bit sounding song I could and this is what I came up with. I used all the classic free VSTs that make creating video game music so easy: Toad, Peach, Syntendo.  The drums are a simple bass and snare sound, with high hats every so often. I didn’t use 8bit drums because I wanted to see if I could make it danceable. The rest of the tracks are itterations of the 3 VSTs I used. I paid special attention to the drums for this track, although they are very simple I spent a lot of time putting variations and fills where I thought they were needed. Enjoy!

Hello. I was no where near finishing the song I planned on posting, so I locked myself in my room today and came up with this. I find it ironic that I am more satisfied with something I made in 1 day than with the other songs I have posted which seemed to have taken much longer. I think it is a sign that I am getting better at this. Hella Gems sucess story: thank you Hella Gems! I made this song entirely in Ableton. I used a couple free VSTs for the interlude: syntendo and toad.

This is my attempt at background music for an exploration game I have been working on randomly. The music has kind of a strange structure and ends wierdly but it can hopefully loop indefinitely without being too annoying.

I was planning on writing lyrics and singing but I ran out of time so I will probably post this again in the future with some buttery vocals. I used a few tracks that I recorded with my micro korg, ableton to make as real sounding drums as I could, and 2 VST instruments from this website: http://www.audiomastermind.com/browse-free_vst_plugins-5886988-1.html

 I doubled up the vocal track and transposed one of them up. I also saturated one of the tracks a bit so that it would clip. I would have liked to create more play between the drums / bass and the vocals but I ran out of time so there is really only some intresting things with the beat in the first half.

Mike Williams was generous enough to help me record this with his mic. He also gave me some back up on the $10 hollah part.
