I’m astounded that I finally managed to make a post without pestering M. Williams. Sorry if this is late. I’m not sure which day was mine, but I was informed that it was recent. I’m still trying to figure out how to work the Google calendar so I can stay on top of my game.
I have this beat I’m working on that I’m really excited about so far, but… it’s not ready yet. So instead I present this. I recorded this earlier in the fall.
Fast Eddy features on the mandolin.
I ran the main vocals through a tube guitar amp while simultaneously recording a signal directly into my computer (well, into my audio interface) if that makes any sense. It took three microphones. It was a fun experiment, and I’m semi-pleased with the results. It’s an idea that I plan to further explore.
What else? I had to record the vocals with my dad, uncle and friend Travis Lacina in the house. So, thanks to all of them. It greatly helped craft this song to be what it is,whatever that may be.

Here’s a rough track. I just pieced it together, so there are some unwanted pops and the mix is not as smooth and tight as I would like it to be. I made it as a collaboration between records, Korg ESX-1, my mind, and Pro Tools. I experimented with some creamy side chain compression, which is almost working the way I’d like it to. I also experimented with slightly staggering the drums for “breath”. Now I just need to find some dope rapper to drip some hot spit all over it! Who should I get to rap on it? p.s. Sorry this is like two days late.

This song was just sort of a fun experiment. The initial idea was to create a song using only a small monophonic toy Casio keyboard (not an SK-1).

I played around a lot with pitch shifting and running sounds through different types of amps, like running the instrumental out through a set of speakers and than recording the sound and blending it with the dry line in audio.

Or, running the vocals through a tube amp and letting it feed back ever so slightly.

I also played some subtle ride cymbal and scratched a bass synth tone.

I had fun AND I learned, as I hope you will too.

Digital Love

Josh Lee, Brian Adams and I recorded this song a week or so ago.

I put one condenser mic on the piano that josh was playing.

I put one condenser mic on the acoustic guitar that Brian was playing and positioned it so it would also pick up some of the ride cymbal.

I put an sm58 mic on the kick that I was playing and an sm57 on the snare that I was also playing.

Then we went back in and recorded the overdubs.

I played bass and the electric guitars as well.

Josh performed the lead vocals.

We all chimed in for the beautiful backing vocals.

In conclusion we had a great time and it was the highlight of my week!
